If you are planning your wedding, you have probably thought about whether or not you want to schedule an engagement shoot with your photographer. You may not a session would be beneficial but keep on reading. I will explain the benefits of these shoots.

1. Get to know your photographer
Having an engagement shoot is a great time to work with your photographer before your big day! Up until this point, you have probably only had a number of phone calls, or email exchanges with each other. This shoot will be a great excuse to meet in person for the first time. You will get to learn about each other and feel more confident before your wedding day!
2. Feel Comfortable In front of a Camera
Odds are you haven't spent too much time with a camera pointed at you before. Scheduling an engagement shoot will give you time to open up and learn what it's like working with a photographer. This session is when you will come to realize that you aren't as awkward in front of a camera as you may think. Your photographer will instruct you on how to pose and you will have the chance to find out what makes you feel the most confident. After experiencing what a photoshoot is like you will feel much more prepared and at ease on your wedding day.
3. Test out your Hair and Makeup
Odds are you are going to have a trial run with both your hair and makeup artists before your wedding day. Some couples like to take this opportunity to schedule their engagement shoot for when they are all glammed up! This will allow you to see how your makeup comes across on camera and gives you the chance to make any adjustments before your wedding day.
4. Create Invitations
Having some professional couples photos is perfect for creating invitations, save-the-dates, your wedding website, guest book, etc. Using your engagement photos for these details will look much more professional than using random photos you find on your phone. Your photographer will probably photograph all these items on your wedding day and having them all match will make your detail photos really pop!
5. You will have Professional Photos Before your Wedding
Having some professional photos is always nice and you can look back at them for years to come. Typically, you will look more casual in these photos and you can even bring an outfit change. Not only is this a great bonding experience for you and your partner, but your engagement is something that should be celebrated! You can use these photos to post any wedding updates to social media, and print and frame them for around your house.
I have been lucky enough to shoot numerous engagement sessions and they have all been a wonderful experience. I love getting to know you and your partner and learning a little more about the love you two share! I hope that this post helped you understand a little more about what engagement shoot is used for and how it can benefit you!
