Long Exposures
One of my favorite things to shoot when I was first learning about photography was long exposures. This type of photography forced me to shoot manual. It also required that I learn about ISO, aperture and shutter speed. I credit my knowledge of different camera settings to painting with light and shooting long exposure shots. These steel wool and star-trail shoots forced me to think about where, how and when I was going to have a photoshoot. This is a skill I carry with me to this day. Being prepared and planning ahead for a photoshoot is one tip that I stress to any new photographer.
